Even if the fauna and flora of all the seas of the globe are victims of pollution, global warming and overfishing, the waters of the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea are home to a very wide variety of marine animals. Here is a list of the main fish species recorded in Thailand.
THE MARINE FAUNA OF THE ANDAMAN SEA
The marine fauna and flora of Phuket and the surrounding islands are rich and varied. The main species generally observed are almost the same in the Andaman Sea as in the Gulf of Thailand:
Barracudas, trevallies, tunas, triggerfish, groupers, fusiliers, flutes, trumpets, chestnuts, balloons, butterflies, angelfish, damselfish, surgeonfish, mullets , perch, parrots, scorpion fish, moray eels, cuttlefish, octopus, squid and many others...
There are also more singular species such as pipefish, frogfish, mantis shrimp, harlequin shrimp, seahorses and nudibranchs. ..
More particularly during the high season (November to April) you can observe: leopard sharks, nurse sharks, reef sharks (black tip or white tip), whale sharks, manta rays and turtles .. .
